McGahon Surveyors is delighted to be working with McAdam Design and Troup Bywaters + Anders on a partnership with Southern Regional College (SRC) on a proposed new Innovation Centre. This will be located at the site of the former Newry Sports Centre in Newry, adjacent to the current SRC Campus.
The project is an exciting development for the Newry campus. The work commenced to date has recently been awarded ‘Highly Commended’ for the ‘Most Innovative Public Sector Project’ in the 2023 Digital Construction Awards. These awards recognise excellence across the construction industry and commended the design for the innovative tools that were used to automatically generate design solutions to assess the building’s impact on energy use, cost and visual impact on Patrick Street.
The design is focused on ensuring the building is sustainable and energy efficient, with multiple collaborative and breakout spaces to encourage networking and brainstorming; while at the heart of the project is the desire to make the building a place where students want to visit and learn.
Donal Mooney said, “McGahon Surveyors has a great working relationship with McAdam Design, having worked with the team on projects right across Ireland. We are absolutely delighted to be involved in this project because it is on our doorstep. It is important for us to support projects that we will likely see every day. We are particularly proud that the work to date has picked up such a prestigious award and we look forward to continuing to be part of this exciting project.”
The new Innovation Centre which is entering RIBA stage 4 is set to replace the SRC’s Model Campus on Catherine Street in Newry.
